Hair Color and Skin Tone
Hair color is an important finishing touch to the visual impression you are trying to achieve with your hairstyle. You can have the perfect hair cut, the perfect hair style and still have your hair look horrible if the hair color doesn't look good on you.
If you are you thinking about changing your hair color but you don't know what color would look best on you then you need to start with figuring out what your skin tone is.
Skin tones fall into two categories; warm and cool. Now we need to figure out whether you fall into the warm or cool category.
Finding Your Skin Tone
There are a couple different ways to determine your skin tone.
Look at Your Veins:
Look at the veins in your arm while you are standing in natural light. Do they look green (yes green) or blue? If they look green then your skin tone is warm. If the veins in your arm look blue then you have a cool skin tone.
Look in the Mirror:
You can also wrap a white towel around your neck and look at your freshly washed face in the mirror. If your skin has a yellow cast to it then you have a warm skin tone. If you face has a blue cast to it, your are in the cool skin tone category.
Use a Piece of Paper:
Another easy way to determine your skin tone is to hold a piece of white paper up to your face and see if you have a yellow (warm) or blue (cool) cast to your skin tone.
Compare with Clothing:
Holding different colored articles of clothing near your face to see which looks better on you can help you to determine your skin tone. If orange colored tones make you look better then you have a warm skin tone. If hot pink makes you look better then you have a cool skin tone.
Use Some Bling Bling:
Your jewelry can also help you determine your skin tone. If you tend to look better when wearing silver jewelry then you have a cool skin tone. If gold jewelry tends to look better on you then you have a warm skin tone.
Match Your Skin + Eyes:
Pale skin + Blue eyes = Blonde Tones
Medium skin + Hazel eyes = Dark blonde or Copper
Dark skin + Any eye color = Shades of Violet or Mahogany
What is Your Natural Hair Color:
Cool Skin Tones = Bluish Black hair, Golden Blonde, Dark Brown or Medium Ash
Warm Skin Tones = Reddish Golden Brown, Golden, Caramel
Warm Skin Tones
Warm skin tones consist of yellow or golden undertones. A warm skin tone looks better with golden blondes, golden browns and copper red hair colors.
